Wildwood man in police custody

St. Louis County Police at 10:22 a.m. on Fri., July 30 took into custody James E. Hardy, 33, of Wildwood.

According to St. Louis County Police Officer Rick Eckhard, police got a call at approximately 10:30 p.m. on July 29 regarding Hardy's state of agitation. Hardy approached officers with a rifle, and officers shot at Hardy, Eckhard said.

According to police, Hardy retreated back into his house before fleeing into the wooded area behind his home. Police searched overnight for Hardy and eventually stopped the vehicle in which he was a passenger at the intersection of Hwys. 100 and 109.

Hardy was taken into custody without incident and was being transported to a medical facility.

Police said a rifle was seized at Hardy's home.
