Ribbon cutting planned for new recreational area

With summer just around the corner, city officials will cut the ribbon on May 22 to officially open the newest outdoor recreational area in St. Charles.

The new McNair Multipurpose Sports Court features a state-of-the-art playground, basketball courts and roller hockey arenas. The playground area was completed this winter, with the hockey arena and basketball courts being completed the last couple months.

"As each area was completed, it became available for people to use immediately," said Evan Godt, with the Parks Department. "The roller hockey in particular has already been getting a lot of use."

The total cost of the project was approximately $335,000 which included removing the old tennis courts and light fixtures that had fallen into disrepair.

And the project is not complete yet. Another shelter with benches will be added near the playground in the near future.

The ribbon cutting ceremony will be held at 11 a.m. on May 22 at McNair Park located at 3200 Droste Road in St. Charles. Representatives of St. Louis Children's Hospital will also be on-site conducting free bicycle helmet checks.
