Ehlmann appoints census commission members
It’s almost time to stand up and be counted – again.
To help get a complete count of St. Charles County residents in the 2010 U.S. Census, County Executive Steve Ehlmann has appointed a 20-member commission to look for ways to get the word out about the importance of the census.
“Our committee will develop and implement plans for a census awareness campaign,” Ehlmann said. “It will also target specific populations in hard-to-count areas. It’s vital for our county to get a complete count.”
How important is the 2010 Census? Ehlmann said Congressional and local districts are created based on the census, and more than $300 billion per year in federal and state funds are distributed based on census counts.
Moreover, census data is used by businesses for products and services and census data is used by community service organizations to obtain funding.
Ehlmann is expected to appoint more members to the Complete Count Commission next month. Here is a list of the current members:
