Construction project on Barrett Station Road begins June 1st

Although Barrett Station Road will close June 1st to traffic just south of Manchester Road, local residents will still be able to get into and out of their subdivisions throughout the 90-day project.

Gershenson Construction will be removing and replacing a concrete culvert immediately south of Barrett Office Drive. Although the pavement at this location will be completely excavated, it is promised that anyone that lives south of the work area will have access to their neighborhood streets for the duration of the closure.

“We’ve received a high volume of calls from homeowners who are concerned about being able to get into and out of their subdivisions during the closure at Barrett Office Drive,” explained David Wrone, public information manager for the County’s Department of Highways and Traffic. “But there’s no need to worry. Barrett Station Road will be open to local traffic throughout the closure, just as it’s remained open throughout the entire project. Everyone will be able to enter and leave their respective neighborhoods.”

In July 2009, St. Louis County began improving Barrett Station Road, from Dougherty Ferry Road north 1.3 miles to Barrett Parkway. When finished, the road will have three driving lanes, one in each direction and a center turn lane, as well as enclosed storm sewers and new sidewalks. The contract for this project is worth slightly more than $6 million.

During the upcoming closure, motorists will be diverted east of Barrett Station Road, via Barrett Parkway, which turns into Fairoyal. The detour route will be heavily signed, to assist drivers.
