Langley, Berkmeyer both out at U.S. Public Links

NCAA champion Scott Langley, of the University of Illinois, was eliminated on the 20th hole during his round of 32 match against Chris Williams at the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship.

The tournament is being held at the Champions Course at Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center in Greensboro, N.C.

Berkmeyer, Langley set to play in U.S. Public Links tournament

Skip Berkmeyer and Scott Langley began play today in the U.S. Amateur Public Links Championship. It was the first time each has played in this tournament.

Berkmeyer, the Town and Country amateur, along with Tony Gumper completed the 36-holes qualifying at Gateway National Golf Links with the same scores of 69-71 and earned the co-medalists honors.

Francis Howell grad wins Metropolitan Open at St. Albans

Going head to head with Scott Langley and having to overcome a five-shot deficit would be a tall task for anyone considering how well Langley has been playing.

Shawn Jasper knew that but he did not flinch.

Anything can happen in golf and it did in the final round of the fifth Metropolitan Open Championship at the Country Club at St. Albans.

Metropolitan Open begins Thursday at St. Albans

Scott Langley has won the last two editions of the Metropolitan Open and he'd like to make it a third.

Langley, who will be a senior at Illinois, knows he will have to earn it. The tournament begins Thursday at the Country Club of St. Albans.

"There's a lot of good players in the Open," Langley said. "If I win, I'll have to play better than everybody else. It won't be handed to me."

Berkmeyer set to defend Missouri state golf title

West County's Skip Berkmeyer will be going to Springfield next week to play in the 103rd Missouri Amateur Championship.

The state golf tournament will take place at Twin Oaks Country Club. It begins Tuesday and runs through Sunday.

Parkway South grad Langley wins NCAA championship

Illinois junior Scott Langley is the new champion of NCAA golf.

Parkway South graduate Langley entered the NCAA Championship as the 26th ranked player in the country according to the Golfweek computer. Langley, a Manchester native, has been a model of consistency in 2009-10, scoring seven top 10s in 13 events.

With three wins in his first two years, Langley was without one in his junior season -- that is until Thursday when Langley became the new champion of NCAA golf.

St. Albans will host U.S. Open sectional qualifying tourney

Parkway South graduate Scott Langley will be among a total of 18 golfers who will compete Monday, June 7 on the Lewis & Clark Course at the Country Club of St. Albans for the opportunity to play in the United States Open at Pebble Beach Golf Links.

At the time of this posting, the number of spots available for the Open had not been published by the United States Golf Association.

The field of 18 is made up of nine amateurs and nine golf professionals.In addition to Langley, other local golfers in the field include amateur Bob Gaus (Tower Tee) and J.C. Anderson (Old Hickory Golf Club).
