There is a reason Marquette shortstop Kyle Grieshaber sounds wistful about his senior season.

Parkway South senior Scott Sommerfeld sees the ball and hits the ball. And, boy, has he been hitting the ball.

In a recent three-game stretch, the 6-foot-1, 190-pound Sommerfeld blasted six home runs for the undefeated Patriots. He has seven total homers this spring.

The baseball teams at Parkway West and Lafayette both are off to solid starts. 

The Lafayette Lancers are led by senior first baseman/pitcher Tyler Boraz, hitting .611, and senior third baseman/shortstop Nate Goro, hitting at .520. Boraz is 2-0 with a 1.56 earned run average (ERA) when pitching. Senior Kyle Grana is 3-1 with a 2.80 ERA.

It is hard to argue with coaches who say the Metro Catholic Conference (MCC) and the Suburban West Conference are among the toughest in the state.
