MathSt. Charles Community College, in cooperation with Great Plains Math League, is hosting the 16th annual high school math tournament at 9 a.m. Saturday, March 9, in the Administration Building.

Registration begins at 8 a.m. in the Student Center Café. There will be a lunch break at 12:30 p.m. The awards ceremony starts at 2 p.m. in the Student Center Café.

Made possible by an SCC Foundation mini-grant, SCC will charge only $1 per student this year. SCC encourages both first-time and returning students to get involved.

The tournament consists of high school students in grades nine, 10, 11 and 12. The tournament showcases mathematical skills and allows students to compete professionally among peers to possibly win awards, compete at the state event and qualify for scholarships. Students can come alone or in a group. The winners will receive awards and/or ribbons.

“We are entering our 16th year of St. Charles Community College hosting the area math tournament. It is a great time to be involved and compete,” said Joe Howe, SCC mathematics professor. “We always look forward to this event and seeing students enjoying and pursing mathematics.”

The tournament will have free doughnuts, coffee and juice for everyone, starting at 8 a.m. in the StudentCenter. There are also free giveaways to all participating students. Coaches will receive a $10 gift card while supplies last.
