Metro West Fire Protection District members of Missouri Task Force 1 have deployed for Hurricane Sandy. Missouri Task Force 1 has been deployed to the east coast in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. Missouri Task Force 1 was put on alert Monday morning along with Ohio Task Force 1, Indiana Task Force 1 and Tennessee Task Force 1. Earlier in the day, Virginia Task Force 1 and 2 along with Maryland Task Force 1 were activated and staged in Virginia and New Jersey. Ohio, Indiana and Tennessee were deployed Tuesday afternoon, and then Missouri was sent to head east to assist.
“It is amazing to see the dedication of our staff to help those in need both locally and around the country,” said Chief Vincent T. Loyal of his staff, who were departing from Wildwood at on Monday evening. “This is an incredibly tragic disaster, but, I am confident that our rescuers will utilize their specialty training and skills to save lives.”

Four members of the Metro West Fire Protection District deployed Monday night to meet up with other members of Missouri Task Force 1. They deployed at 1 a.m. on Tuesday morning as a Type 1 team, which includes 80 personnel and over 100,000 pounds of equipment. The task force is also authorized to add an additional water rescue component to the cache of equipment. The task force was enroute to Herndon, Va., to stage and await their mission assignment and will be deployed for up to 14 days.
