‘Pink Power’ comes to Cuivre River Electric employees

Cuivre River Electric Cooperative employees are celebrating their cooperative spirit during the month of October, National Cooperative Month, by their show of Pink Power, a campaign to support breast cancer awareness and education.

Linemen and field personnel are wearing pink hard hats this month, as other employees sport Pink Power T-shirts to “shine light on those in the fight,” said Dan L. Brown, general manager/CEO.

Brown brought the idea to life with the help of crews and coworkers willing to stand up and be noticed for their commitment to helping their neighbors. Their public effort pairs the cooperative principles of “Education” and Concern for Community” in a unifying campaign to support Cooperative Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month in one gesture.

“Each of us know someone who has been touched by this disease,” Brown said. “Our employees are really stepping up with their heads and their hearts to participate.”

Employee efforts will raise funds to support the American Cancer Society’s breast cancer research program, but Brown said fundraising wasn’t the primary goal. “This is about demonstrating our support with a show of ‘Pink Power” in the field and in the office and providing information for employees and members about breast cancer prevention. We stand in fellowship and hope with families and neighbors who are fighting cancer today, and those fighting to prevent cancer.”
