Recycling old soda cans can help a patriot.
The city of St. Peters is asking its residents to collect as many aluminum cans this month as it can to help out with the “Pennies for Patriots” drive.
St. Peters Alderman Rocky Reitmeyer said all the money raised from the recycled cans will be donated to the USO to help returning servicemen and women coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan before leaving for Ft. Leonard Wood.
“The servicemen and women truly appreciate your donation and I tell them each time I work there it came from the residents of St. Peters and the people in the surrounding areas,” said Reitmeyer in an e-mail. “The USO is the closest thing to being home as we can make it. It’s a time for them to relax or get a little sleep or get a nice meal before they start their journey.”
Aluminum cans may be donated on the west side of St. Peters City Hall in a Brown Recycle Can marked for “Pennies for Patriots.” Donations can also be made at Recycle City.
