Lafayette moved up a spot in the Class 6 statewide high school football rankings, as compiled by a 14-member panel of Missouri sportswriters and broadcasters.

The Lancers (6-0) are No. 3 this week, receiving 104 votes. Lafayette banked (2-4) Lindbergh by a 37-0 margin. Lafayette plays at St. Louis University High at 7 p.m. Friday.

CBC (6-0) remained No. 1, capturing all 14 first-place votes and 140 points.  The Cadets defeated Class 5 Chaminade (1-5) last Friday 42-3.

Blue Springs (5-1) moved to No. 2 as Jefferson City lost and fell to No. 8.

De Smet (4-2) dropped a notch to No. 9 with 24 votes despite whipping  (3-2) St. Louis University High 56-7.

CBC will play at De Smet in a 7 p.m. Friday.

Parkway South (6-0) remained just outside the top 10 with 13 votes. The Patriots thumped (1-5) Mehlville 27-0. Parkway South entertains Northwest at 7 p.m. Friday.

In Class 5, the Parkway Central Colts (6-0) remained No. 6 with 62  votes. Parkway Central shut out rival (2-4) Parkway North 23-0.

This week, Parkway Central plays at 1 p.m. Saturday at University City.

Colts coach Mark Goldenberg said he is pleased to see his squad get recognition but it’s not what they are seeking.

“It is nice to get recognition for what you have done but the only poll that matters is the one at the end of the year,” Goldenberg said. “We don’t talk about it because it does not mean anything until the end of the year.

“We don’t focus on it too much. We only focus on the game we have each week. Nothing else is of our concern.”

Parkway Central is playing well, Goldenberg said, but no prizes are given out after six games. There is much more to play for.

“All the goals we have are in front of us,” Goldenberg said. “I am proud of the boys for what they have done, but what we want to do is all in front of us.”
