The Parkway Central Colts crashed into the Class 5 Missouri State High School Football Association coaches poll this week.
The Colts (5-0) knocked off Webster Groves 24-21 last Friday. The Statesmen were ranked No. 5. Parkway Central picked up 50 points in the balloting. Fellow Suburban South Conference member Kirkwood is ranked No. 1 with 135 votes and nine first-place votes. Lee’s Summit West picked up the other five first-place votes. Fort Osage is No. 3 and Staley is No. 4.
Parkway Central returns to action at 7 p.m. Friday. The Colts will host conference rival Parkway North. Next week, Parkway Central will play University City. Should the Colts prevail in both games, Parkway Central will have a showdown with Kirkwood, providing the Pioneers also win their next two games.
In Class 6, CBC remained solidly in the top spot. The Cadets were an unanimous choice with 140 points. CBC whipped fellow Metro Catholic Conference member Vianney 54-6 last week. The Cadets will host Chaminade at 7 p.m. Friday in a league encounter.
Jefferson City is No. 2 with 119 points. Blue Springs is third and Lafayette follows at No. 4.
Lafayette blanked Oakville 45-0 last week but somehow dropped from No. 3 to No. 4 in the poll this week. The Lancers will entertain Lindbergh at 7 p.m. Friday.
De Smet lost 42-24 to powerful Jefferson City. The loss caused De Smet to fall from No. 5 to No. 8 in this week’s poll. The Spartans will play at SLUH at 7 p.m. Thursday.
Parkway South, which was ranked two weeks ago but dropped out last week, continues to receive votes and is just outside the top 10. The Patriots remain undefeated at 5-0.
In Class 4, the Westminster Christian Academy Wildcats dropped out of state rankings. The Wildcats were No. 10 but Westminster suffered its first loss of the season last Friday. Visiting Priory upended the Wildcats 49-14.
