Pack a picnic and some comfortable lawn chairs and head for the Civic Park Bandstand on Monday, Sept. 3, to enjoy a Labor Day Concert. The concert features music by the O’Fallon Jazz Band at 1:30 p.m., with the O’Fallon Community Concert Band following at approximately 2:45 p.m. Both bands are directed by Gene Garza.

Selections by the O’Fallon Jazz Band include vocals by Steve Schumacher on “The Lady is a Tramp,” “Jump, Jive and Wail,” and “I Get a Kick Out of You.” The afternoon’s performance includes trumpet and trombone features, and the songs “Night Train,” “Brothers go to Mothers,” “Here’s That Rainy Day,” “You Made me Love You,” and “Once is Not Enough.”

In celebration of the O’Fallon Community Concert Band’s 25th anniversary this year, the band will debut an original composition by Gene Garza, “The O’Fallon Community Band March.”  The program also includes “Instant Concert” ( 30 different tunes in three minutes), “Pink Panther,” “Moon River,” “Baby Elephant Walk,” “The Gladiator March,” “Where Valor Proudly Sleeps,” “Band of Brothers,” “The Great Locomotive Chase,” “Tijuana Brass in Concert,” and “Fantasy on Yankee Doodle.”

Directions to Civic Park: On I-70, take Exit 217 at highways K and M (Main Street). Drive north approximately one-half mile on Main Street (getting into the left lane); after crossing the railroad tracks make an immediate left (west) onto Civic Park Drive. The park is on the right about four blocks down.
