The local weather this winter has been far from extreme, however after our cold snap last weekend (and we still have five weeks of winter left) I wanted to take the opportunity to share tips on dressing appropriately – and fashionably.  Throughout the ages, people subjected to harsh winter climates have relied on layering as the most efficient way to dress for warmth. Layering is simply the process of wearing a series of thin garments one on top of the other instead of dressing in a single bulky item.  The classic approach to layering is to dress in three layers: the base layer, the insulating layer, and the protective layer or shell. If these layers are chosen properly, each component fulfills a particular function, and all three work together to act as a complete weather protection system that keeps the wearer warm and dry.

There are many brands on the market, and you can find them all at various retailers in St. Louis.  My best advice for you is to research the brands and retailers before you go shopping, then when you’re ready find a knowledgeable salesperson to help you choose the items that best fit your needs.
