While the politically watchful were focusing on Florida’s GOP presidential primary, about 1,000 local folks were able to get in on the act when an unexpected campaign stop brought Rick Santorum (Penn.) to Cottleville Jan. 30.

Santorum left Florida after the Jan. 26 debate.

He told the audience packing a St. Charles Community College auditorium that for once he was happy for “main stream media harassment.”

Because of pressure from reporters asking Santorum to reveal his income tax records, he said he had to go to Pennsylvania because he does his own taxes and that’s where his computer was located.

While at home on Jan. 28, Santorum’s youngest daughter, Isabella Maria, 3, became ill and had to be hospitalized for treatment of pneumonia.

In Cottleville, Santorum thanked his audience for their prayers and reported her rapid improvement.

“Bella is wonderful…doing well and should be home in a day or two,” Santorum said. “God works in mysterious ways.”

That was one of several robust applause lines. For more, see the Feb. 8 edition of Mid Rivers Newsmagazine.
