St. Louis County plans to perform tornado siren tests postponed

St. Louis County on Wed., Jan. 25 was scheduled to perform more tests on its new tornado siren system but because of the weather has postponed the tests until the following week.
The tests were spurred by possible sound coverage gaps reported during the early morning tornado warning on Jan. 17. Officials will perform individual tests on sirens located throughout St. Louis County – including Wildwood, Kirkwood and St. Ann. The tests will be book ended by a voice announcement that explains that the tests are only tests.
The tests are part of St. Louis County’s Emergency Communications Network’s ongoing tweaking of its new 187-siren tornado warning system, which went online on Labor Day in 2011.
For more information, call David Barney, director of the Emergency Communications Network, at (314) 615-2562.
